Self photo studio questions, answered
The questions we get most about self photoshoots in Singapore - Sessions, prices, groups, printing and our AI tools.
The basics
What exactly is a self photo studio?
A private studio room with professional lighting, a camera on a tripod and a remote shutter or screen. You book a time slot, go in alone or with friends, and take your own photos - No photographer in the room. Sessions typically run 15 to 60 minutes and end with digital files, prints or both. Our full beginner's guide walks through a session step by step.
How is it different from a photo booth?
A photo booth is a walk-in machine that shoots a fixed strip of 4 photos in a couple of minutes. A self photo studio gives you a whole private room and unlimited shots for your time slot. Booths cost less per visit; studios give you far more control and variety - The full comparison breaks down when each wins.
Do I need photography experience?
None at all. The camera and lighting are pre-set by the studio - You only press the remote and pose. Most studios show each shot on a screen instantly so you can adjust - Our posing guide covers what to actually do in front of the lens.
How long is a self photo studio session?
Most standard sessions run 20 to 30 minutes in the room. Quick booth-style formats take about 10 minutes, and premium or group packages stretch to 45–60 minutes. Many studios sell extra time in 10–15 minute blocks if you're mid-flow.
Can I use a self photo studio for a LinkedIn headshot?
Yes - A neutral backdrop, a blazer and the live preview screen make self studios a cheap way to shoot your own professional headshot. Our profile photoshoot guide covers framing and crop sizes per platform.
How many people can join a session?
Most rooms comfortably fit 2 to 4 people, and many studios allow larger groups for an extra per-pax fee. Family rooms and group-friendly studios exist - Check the studio's cap before booking, and see the family shoot guide if you're bringing kids or grandparents.
Prices and booking
How much does a self photoshoot cost in Singapore?
Expect roughly S$20–40 per person for a standard 20–30 minute session, with photo booth strips from about S$12 and premium or long-format sessions above S$60. Weekday and off-peak slots are often cheaper - The price guide has a full breakdown by session type.
Do I need to book in advance?
For weekends, yes - Popular studios in Orchard and Bugis sell out days ahead. Weekday afternoons can often be walk-in. Graduation season (May–August) books out fastest - Plan ahead with the grad shoot guide.
What's usually included in a package?
A private room for a fixed time, all soft copies or a set number of edited/printed photos, use of props, and sometimes extras like hair straighteners, outfit steamers or themed rooms - See how to use them in our props and colour rooms guide.
During the shoot
What should I wear?
Solid colours photograph best against studio backdrops; avoid tiny patterns that shimmer on camera. Coordinate - Don't clone - Outfits with your group. Our what-to-wear guide has full colour pairings per backdrop.
Can I bring props or pets?
Most studios welcome your own props. Pets are studio-specific: some have dedicated pet-friendly rooms or hours, others prohibit animals. Always check the studio's policy before bringing your dog or cat - The pet photoshoot guide covers policies, prep and poses.
Will I get the raw files?
Policies differ. Many studios give every raw shot from your session; others include a fixed number of retouched picks with paid add-ons for the rest. Confirm before booking if getting every file matters to you.
Can I bring my own camera?
Usually you won't need to - The studio's camera and lighting are the product - But most studios don't mind phones for behind-the-scenes shots. A few prohibit outside cameras to protect their setup; check the studio's rules if it matters to you.
What happens if I'm late?
Sessions run back to back, so lateness normally eats into your own slot rather than extending it. Arrive ten minutes early; if you know you'll be late, message the studio - Some can shift you to the next free room.

Are the AI tools on this site really free?

Can the AI tools do video or GIF face swaps?
Not yet - Our face swap works on photos. For moving formats, shoot a burst at a real studio instead, or preview a concept first with the AI photoshoot generator.
